Maria

Maria’s interest in sport started when she was very young but it wasn’t until 1996, at the age of 26, when she finally started training and joined a Masters swimming group. Maria’s swimming soon turned into triathlon when in 1998 she competed in her first triathlon. Since then Maria has been crowned Malta Female Duathlon Champion, Malta Female Triathlon Champion and Female Triathlete of the Year no less than 5 times in a row. She was also crowned the 2002 Sportswoman of the Year. Maria has competed internationally in UK, Italy, Cyprus, Holland and Turkey. Her biggest success was to qualify for the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games despite the tough standards set by the Malta Olympic Committee. Though performing below her standards it is an experience which will remain with her for the rest of her life.

Maria’s first degree is in Biology and Chemistry, however due to her love for sport she decided to take her Masters in Sport and Exercise Physiology at Chichester University in the UK. Her course has focused on using sport science for enhancing sport performance. She has finished her course successfully obtaining an ‘A’ grade in her thesis “The Effects of Low Substrate Availability on Thermoregulation during Submaximal Exercise in a Hot Environment”.

Maria brings her extensive experience of training and competition in sport at the highest levels along with her knowledge of sport physiology to the Triton Team in order to give our clients the best expertise to identify the physiological adaptations responsible for the athlete’s health, fitness and performance.

Cliff

For Cliff being fit and healthy has always been an important part of his life though he had never really taken part in any particular sport on a competitive basis, preferring to keep himself fit enough to be able to join in with whatever was going on, from a game of soccer to a jog down the sea front. This however all changed a few years ago when he discovered Triathlon and decided that completing an Olympic distance tri sounded like a good challenge. Finding himself in at the deep end (quite literally in the swimming sessions) he soon found himself hooked on the sport and his challenge of completing an Olympic distance tri turned into seeing how fast he could do it. Now a few years later he is still on an upward struggle to improve on the tough standards he sets for himself but is enjoying every minute of it.

Cliff spent 3 years studying in Sheffield, UK for a Masters degree in Marketing Management, and another 3 years working in the field. Coupled with his interest in health and fitness and his new found love for multi sport events that was all it took for him realise that his calling lay not in finding ways to profit from the consumer, but rather to give his clients the basic tools to enjoy life to the fullest – healthier, fitter and stronger.

It took a tough 3 months in Cyprus, studying with one of the UK’s top fitness schools to gain his Diploma in Personal Training and Sports Massage. Cliff is now registered with the UK’s Register of Exercise Professionals as an Advanced Instructor Level 3, with certificates in Massage Therapy and Nutrition amongst others. His goal is to continue training and studying, constantly improving the quality of service he provides and, along with Maria and Andy help athletes towards the uppermost echelons of their sport.
